Amaze today we define that word as: To affect with great wonder, to astonish.
But Amaze came from an Old English work that meant confuse or bewilder. Something we know is real but cannot understand. That is the sense of amazement we need to remember when we sing phrases like; "I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus wonder how he could love me, a sinner"
and "Amazing Grace...that saved a wretch like me". That is the sense of amazement we need to remember when we read Romans 5:8 ..While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
