About this site

Music is an important part of Christian worship. As music leaders we select and prepare songs for worship every week. For each song we should be prepared to answer the question "Why is it included in Worship?" What does this song have to teach us? How is it related to a Biblical truth or concept?

Redeemer/He Lives

In 1933 Evangelist Alfred H. Ackley was asked “Why should I worship a dead Jew?”

He answered: "He lives! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands."

Ackley later continued his answer by writing "I know that He is living whatever men may say;...He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!" those are, of course the words to "He Lives" today's opening hymn.

If he were a contemporary musician and composer today Ackley may have written "I Know My Redeemer Lives".

Job 19:25...I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he will stand upon the earth at last.
