About this site

Music is an important part of Christian worship. As music leaders we select and prepare songs for worship every week. For each song we should be prepared to answer the question "Why is it included in Worship?" What does this song have to teach us? How is it related to a Biblical truth or concept?

I’ve Got Peace like a River

I’ve Got Peace like a River
African American Spiritual

The book of Isaiah is full of warnings for a people who were not following God's word and will. But, it is also full of words of hope that if God's people study his word and seek his will he will supply our need and bring peace and joy to our lives. Because water is so important to life and precious in that part of the world, Isaiah often equates water with fulfillment and peace.

Some examples:
Isaiah 12:3 (NLT)
With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!
Isaiah 41:18 (NLT)
I will open up rivers for them on high plateaus. I will give them fountains of water in the valleys
Isaiah 48:18 (NIV) If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river...
and from the final chapter of Isaiah

Isaiah 66:12 (NIV)
... "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; ...

"I've Got Peace Like a River" arranged by Sandy Willard Rogers
