About this site

Music is an important part of Christian worship. As music leaders we select and prepare songs for worship every week. For each song we should be prepared to answer the question "Why is it included in Worship?" What does this song have to teach us? How is it related to a Biblical truth or concept?

Within the Shadow of the Cross

Within the Shadow of the Cross
by Nancy Price and Don Besig

Mark 10:14 Jesus said "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them". In that story Jesus is blessing the children...its a touching happy scene. But, do we also let children come to Jesus on the cross? To that terrible scene of Jesus dieing? This is a story, a made-up story, its not Biblical, about a child witnessing the crucifixion. One thing that strikes me about this story is that after all of the adults had watched Jesus die, decided it was over and had gone home, the child stayed expecting there to be more. Sometimes we learn more from them than we could ever teach to them.

Within the
Shadow of the Cross

Mark 10:13-16 (NIV)
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." 16 And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
