About this site

Music is an important part of Christian worship. As music leaders we select and prepare songs for worship every week. For each song we should be prepared to answer the question "Why is it included in Worship?" What does this song have to teach us? How is it related to a Biblical truth or concept?

House of Grace

"House of Grace"
by Joseph M. Martin

R
ahab invited strangers into her home. The Shunammite woman added a guest room on to her house for Elisha. The Bible is full of people being hospitable.

"House of Grace" by Joseph M. Martin was commissioned by a church in Connecticut on the occasion of their 300th anniversary. The first line of the song is taken from their church motto "Where Friends Become Family." It encourages us to "throw open the doors" and "welcome" the community into our church. Welcome them not just as guests, but to "welcome" them "home".
