About this site

Music is an important part of Christian worship. As music leaders we select and prepare songs for worship every week. For each song we should be prepared to answer the question "Why is it included in Worship?" What does this song have to teach us? How is it related to a Biblical truth or concept?

I'm Standing on the Solid Rock

I'm Standing on the Solid Rock
by Harold Lane

We are surrounded by stones and rocks today. The front wall of the sanctuary is made of rock, there are boulders surrounding the entrance to the parking lot, I even brought a large stone into the sanctuary.

There are many, many times stones or rocks are mentioned in the Bible. David took down Goliath with a stone. When a group of people were about to stone a woman to death, Jesus seized the opportunity to teach a lesson. "If any of you is without sin, let him cast the first stone." (John 8:7). In Luke 6, Jesus is compared to a foundation of rock.
"I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built." (Luke 6:47-48)

I'm Standing on the Solid Rock in included in the collection "Old-Fashioned Meeting, Volume 2" from Brentwood Benson
